20+ SWAT & Police Responding Code 3 To A Armed Barricaded Suspect - Henderson Police Department

On 7/12/23 Henderson Police Department responded to the 600 block of Ladywood Lane in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon officers arrival they located a female bleeding profusely and quickly requested Henderson Fire Department (HFD) to stage and a code red (Emergency Traffic Only) on their radio channel. Responding officers were requested to expedite and to get the victim to a safe location were HFD could treat and transport her to a hospital. Officers learned that the suspect hit the female victim in the head with his fists and had access to a 10 inch knife. Officers began to setup containment around the target residence in case the suspect ran. Officers were able to see the suspect pacing back and forth with the 10 inch knife in his hand. Traffic units shut down the road so no cars were able to get into the scene. They also sent out a reverse 911 to have surrounding residents shelter in place. Officers confirmed no one else was inside the house besides a pit bull. Meanwhile HFD was treating the victim they sent a officer to escort her to the hospital and gain more information. Dispatch advised that they were landline with a family member who advised the suspect has slit his wrists. Once containment was set with K9 officers began Public Address (PA) announcements to render medical aid to the suspect. Officers requested dispatch to get a landline with the suspect so they can have him exit for medical aid. The family member advised that he is a felon out of multiple states and also advised that he said he was having difficulty breathing. Officers continued the attempts to get him to exit the house and to confirm there was another HFD rescue enroute. Officers established command post (CP). The Lieutenant (Lt) on scene requested a Major Incident Notification to be sent out and that SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) and CNT (Crisis Negotiations Team) to be Enroute. SWAT and CNT quickly responded to the scene and were informed on all the information and details on the scene and residence by dispatch and patrol units. Upon SWAT and CNTs arrival, they moved in and deployed the Robot from the new Bombcat. Before they made entry or did any flash bangs the suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital with non life threatening superficial injuries. After released from the hospital the suspect was booked into Henderson Detention Center with the following charges:
-Domestic Battery by Strangulation
-Coercion w/Force or Threat of Force
-Assault w/Deadly Weapon
-Battery to Commit Sex Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm
-Convicted Person Fail to Register w/ Law Enforcement within 48 hours

7/13/23 HPD UPDATE

“During the booking process, the suspect advised the medical staff that he had ingested numerous amounts of prescription medications prior to being taken into custody. Due to this information, the suspect was transported and admitted as a patient into a local area hospital. He was later booked in absentia into the Henderson Detention Center. On July 13th, 2023, while in-custody, after multiple attempts by medical staff to stabilize the suspect, the suspect’s health continued to decline, and was pronounced deceased later that evening. Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, the Henderson Police Department opened an investigation.”
